Supermacs refuses to agree to 2.30am closing time in Castlebar

A letter sent by the proprietor of the Supermacs restaurant in Castlebar to the members of the Castlebar Joint Policing Committee (JPC), was described as being “nearly contemptuous” by Garda Superintendent Willie Keaveney at a meeting of the JPC this week. The committee was discussing the issue of takeaway closing times concerning an agreement that had been reached with the rest of the takeaway operators in the town to close at 2.30am. However, Supermacs was refusing to sign up to the agreement.

Fianna Fáil TD, Dep Beverly Flynn was the top expenses claimant of the seven national representatives from County Mayo over the months of March and April, it was revealed this week. From now on TDs and senators expenses will be published online on the Oireachtas website on a monthly basis. Tuesday was the first day that the expenses were published. Deputy Flynn was also the only one of the seven Mayo Oireachtas representatives to submit vouched expenses for which she received €10,091.68 for the two months or €5,045.84 each month.

The five-member delegation from Mayo County Council which met with the Oireachtas Committee for Environment, Heritage and Local Government left Government buildings on Tuesday night happy that they had put forward their best case for the retention of the new Mayo County Development Plan. The issue of the plan has rumbled on since it was adopted in April unanimously by the 31 elected members of Mayo County Council, with a number of submissions and changes put forward by the Minister for Environment, John Gormley, and his department and issued on his behalf by County Manager Des Mahon.
